Fliplock is a Rolex bracelet extension made of three folding blades hidden under the cover of the clasp. Unfolded, it adds 26 mm to the bracelet. That extra length lets the watch fit over a thicker diving suit, and with Rolex’s Glidelock system it can be worn over a wetsuit as thick as 7 mm.
How does the Fliplock work?
The Fliplock is built into the bracelet clasp. Its three blades sit folded under the clasp cover when not in use. To lengthen the bracelet, the blades fold out and add 26 mm in one go. Because the extension sits inside the clasp, a diver can wear the watch over a wetsuit without adding extra Oyster links to the bracelet. On the Deepsea, the Fliplock takes the form of a link under the clasp. Together with Glidelock, it gives the clasp two separate ways to extend.
Which watches have a Fliplock?
Rolex fits the Fliplock to the Deepsea and the Sea-Dweller. On both, the aim is the same: a bracelet long enough to close over a thick diving suit without spare links. Not every Deepsea has one, though. The third-generation Deepsea of 2022 came with a redesigned clasp, and that clasp dropped the Fliplock. So it is worth checking the clasp of a Deepsea before assuming the extension is there.
Not to be confused with
Rolex makes other clasp extensions, and the names are easy to mix up. Glidelock adjusts the length in small 2 mm steps, up to a total of 20 mm. It is the tool for fine adjustment. Easylink adds only 5 mm, and is meant for comfort. The Fliplock does one larger job: it adds 26 mm at once. On the Deepsea and Sea-Dweller it works alongside Glidelock rather than replacing it.
