Oysterclasp

The Oysterclasp is a Rolex folding clasp with a protective cover that opens in one motion. Rolex designed it for daily wear, balancing a secure close with easy opening. One guide calls it the oldest-established and most classic of the Rolex clasp designs.

How does the Oysterclasp work?

The clasp folds shut, and a cover sits over the folding parts to protect them. One motion is enough to open it. Closing it has a distinct feel. Rolex says you first meet some resistance, then hear a crisp click. The aim is a clasp that holds securely through the day, yet still opens easily when you take the watch off.

Which Rolex watches use it?

It is the most common clasp in the Rolex range. You will find it on Datejust models for both men and women. One example is the Datejust 41, reference 126300. Rolex fits this watch with an Oysterclasp and the Easylink extension link, which is also exclusive to Rolex. The Oysterlock, by contrast, appears mostly on Rolex professional models.

Not to be confused with

Rolex uses three main clasp types: the Oysterclasp, the Oysterlock safety clasp and the Crownclasp. The Oysterlock is easy to mix up with the Oysterclasp because it starts from the same covered folding design. It then adds a safety catch that stops the clasp from opening by accident. Rolex uses it mostly on its professional models. The Crownclasp is a different idea. It is a concealed folding clasp, patented by Rolex, and only a crown shows on the bracelet.
