Grand Seiko has introduced the Elegance SBGY045, a limited edition made only for GS9 Club members. It is the first such watch offered to members worldwide, and it serves as the club’s 2027 exclusive.

The watch shares its movement and case proportions with the SBGY007 Omiwatari. Inside is the Spring Drive caliber 9R31, a manual-wind movement with a 72-hour power reserve, rated at ±15 seconds a month. It has 30 jewels, a hairline-brushed bridge, diamond-cut bevels and heat-blued screws.

The dial’s blue-green gray, called minatonezu, comes from the shijūhatcha hyakunezumi palette of the Edo period. Layers of translucent gray paint sit on a matte base, under a thick, glass-like coating that looks like enamel. Baton markers mark the hours, with one exception at nine o’clock, where an Arabic numeral 9 and an applied dot in gold tone match the GS logo. The seconds hand is golden too.

The stainless steel case is from the Thin Dress Series and measures 38.5mm across, 43.7mm lug-to-lug and 10.2mm thick. The top-facing surfaces are Zaratsu mirror polished, while the sides are satin brushed. A dual-curved sapphire crystal with antireflective coating covers the dial. The watch is splash resistant and withstands magnetic fields of 4,800 A/m.

Two 19mm calfskin straps come in the box, one chocolate brown and one light gray, each with a stainless steel folding clasp.

Production is capped at 600 pieces, with 300 allocated to Japan. Members of any chapter can apply through a purchase lottery running until the end of July on each country’s GS9 Club website. The price is €9,500 in Europe, A$12,950 in Australia and ¥1,276,000 in Japan. Deliveries are expected in February 2027.
